]]>At Lana’s Organic Day Spa we’re always trying to find the right treatment to help our clients reach their skincare goals. If you have such skin problems as age spots, sunburn, acne scars, large pores dark complexion, pregnancy spots, freckles, you should definitely try our Hydrodermabrasion Treatment. Our Licensed Estheticians have an obsession with skincare and are excited to share their education and natural concepts with you and bring out the best in your skin.
Hydrodermabrasion is an exciting new technology that combines the excitement and efficacy of Microdermabrasion with a new twist and better results! Our Hydrodermabrasion Peel more gently as it uses serum or normal saline as the peeling medium, so it is very suitable for those with sensitive skin and tender skin condition. All through the process, the skin being peeled is covered by the serum, which can supply with plenty of nutritious and moisture and can decrease the scrubbing irritation to the skin. The water soluble essence in the serum is easier to be absorbed by the skin. Hydrodermabrasion Treatment is really the first choice to those with sensitive and dry skin, especially when it is used in dry seasons.
Women with sensitive skin will be happy to know that this type of procedure won’t be too harsh for them. Unlike microdermabrasion, Hydrodermabrasion has interchangeable abrasive discs so the intensity of the level of abrasion will depend on the client’s skin type, which will have been evaluated beforehand.
Not only does the procedure exfoliate your skin but it also hydrates it by infusing personalized moisturizing formulas into the skin while the skin is being exfoliated. The hydrating ingredients will sink into the skin with ease and result in beautiful, rejuvenated and glowing skin. This is the only type of microdermabrasion that includes this hydration therapy.
Hydrodermabrasion can be used on all skin types and can be used to treat a variety of different skin ailments. If you are looking for a non-invasive, but effective way to re-energize your skin, then Hydrodermabrasion might be the right treatment for you.
No matter what your skin type or what you’re looking for, Hydrodermabrasion is a great, non-evasive, painless skin care solution. You can absolutely combine Hydrodermabrasion with other treatments; the Hydrodermabrasion infuses water deep into the skin. This helps to break down the impurities before your secondary treatment and provide the skin with a deeper hydration than moisturizing alone.
By combining treatments you are working from both inside out and outside in – giving you maximum benefits of both. If you wanted to indulge a little further – then add an Infrared Light Treatment to the end of your Dermabrasion Service to invigorate your skin and give you that youthful perfect glow.
Hydrodermabrasion Treatments are highly effective in skin texture improvement, wrinkle reduction, removal unwanted pigmentation and overall skin rejuvenation. It is also very useful with acne, blackheads and eruptions.
There is NO discomfort during the procedure. It is often described as feeling like a “cool paintbrush moving slowly over your face.” Skin may appear slightly pink after treatment, but will quickly subside. You may put on make-up and return to normal activities right after the treatment as there is no downtime. You should always wear sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun for the next several days.
Hydrodermabrasion Treatment is perfect for all skin types. It improves the overall appearance of the skin giving skin a healthy glow and youthful appearance, and is specifically designed for:
Our Hydrodermabrasion is an all-natural, painless, skin treatment procedure that dramatically improves the appearance and texture of your skin. We are here to create a positive impact in the lives of our clients and help them learn about skincare.
We usually recommend a course of 4-6 treatments to achieve long-lasting smooth and healthy skin. Some of our clients choose to have this as a weekly or fortnightly ongoing treatment. However the number of treatments required may differ from person to person, so we will always give a personalized recommendation for all our clients.
Drink lots of water after the procedure and eat water-filled foods like fruits and vegetables since the procedure can leave you feeling dehydrated. Your skin will need extra hydration so apply a thick layer of your richest face cream and remove any debris left on your skin after the procedure. Be gentle with your skin, don’t use scented or harsh products when cleaning your skin.
We know that trying new things can be intimidating especially when it comes to your skin and face. The great news is this service is so relaxing and gentle! Clients should expect minimal to no discomfort. Immediately post treatment the skin can become slightly pink but dissipates quickly, however hydration and softness to your skin will be noticed right after. You can resume normal activities right after your treatment is completed.
Who said skincare can’t be high-tech, right? With how fast things in our world are advancing who knows what is going to be next around the corner. For now though, the Hydrodermabrasion Treatment is one of the best! We love the results it can deliver for our clients and so will you!

]]>The post How to Wax Your Legs at Home – 5 Things to Know appeared first on Lana's Organic Day Spa.
]]>A few years ago, I decided I’d had enough with shaving my legs. It’s one of the more tedious body-grooming tasks if you choose to do so, and there’s so much to be annoyed about it, from the occasional skin irritation to the fact that—surprise—you’ve got to repeat the process the very next day if you want to be silky smooth (having thick hair is a blessing in most cases, but not so much when you’re talking legs). I blocked off new time with the woman I see for my bikini waxes, and off I went, never looking back…until I realized how much money I was spending.
In my suburban salon, a half-leg wax runs me about $40. Go every three weeks and you’re looking at an annual line item around $680—not cheap. While I was pleased with the way regular waxing made my hair grow in thinner and less spiky-feeling, I decided I couldn’t keep handing over my credit card. Armed with a few Googled testimonials and a DIY waxing kit purchased on Amazon, I took matters into my own hands and starting waxing at home. Two months after I bit the bullet, things have been both messy and good. It definitely requires a time commitment, and I’ve never had a result as perfect as what I got from the pros, but I am happy to be saving the cash.
All that said, there are few lessons I’ve had to learn the hard way. If I could start all over again, here’s what I wish I had known about how to wax your legs at home.
Look for a solution that will be easy to wash off.
One perk of doing waxing at home is I have more control over the formula. I’d frequently return home from the waxer with sticky spots left over that needed to be removed with baby oil. The Nair wax I’ve been using is way easier to clean—warm water and soap does the trick. I hop in the shower after I’m done for easy clean up, and any spots that land on my bathroom sink or on the applicator are gone with a soapy swipe.
This is not the time for a rush job.
I was the most careful during my inaugural run and slowly got lazier. When I’m hurrying or not paying attention, things get messy: I’ve stepped on a used strip (so gross), pieces have landed on the carpet sticky-side down, and I’ve destroyed my sink top. Lesson learned: Take your time.
Keep the strip close to your skin when pulling.
Some of my attempts have been more successful than others, and I’ve learned hair removal is about the direction in which I’m pulling the strips. It’s your first instinct to pull the strip straight up and off, but that can actually leave more hair behind. While you still want to move quickly, try pulling the strip in toward your body and keep it close to your leg. That’ll help give you more control.
Buy extra strips.
When using a roll-on wax, you’re going to need more strips than you think. The kit I use comes with 10 strips which doesn’t cover the entire job. I’ve rinsed the strips with sudsy water and reused them in a pinch (thanks, helpful Amazon commenters!), but I recommend stocking up ahead of time.
Don’t jump straight to DIY’ing.
In terms of the ouch-factor, I can’t speak to everyone individually. I typically grimaced a bit at the salon, but have actually found my DIY method to be less painful. Although, to be fair, I’ve been waxing for longer, so the hair isn’t as thick as my first trip in. I’m happy with my decision to take waxing into my own bathroom, but I’d suggest anyone start with a professional. You’ll get to see how things are done, and you’ll be dealing with slightly less stubborn hair when you step into the driver’s seat. But if you want to jump right into it, try taking a pain reliever an hour before waxing so it doesn’t hurt as badly.

]]>Let’s just get straight to the point: Butt acne is real, and it’s not comfortable. Breakouts that occur on unlikely parts of your body can be especially distressing because we often have no idea how—or why—they got there.
Technically called “folliculitis,” acne on your butt isn’t quite the same as the flare-ups that happen on your face. It’s often due to clogged hair follicles rather than clogged pores and can occur from a combination of occlusion (i.e., blockage), friction, sweat, and bacteria, according to Susan Bard, M.D., of New York’s Sadick Dermatology. Basically, if you leave your sweaty yoga pants on for hours after class or wear skintight jeans or leather pants when its balmy out, you could be upping your chances of getting butt acne.
For me, it happens every time I “forget” to shower between a Spin class and brunch, or when I want to leave my cute workout outfit on all day instead of putting on real clothes. Needless to say, it makes all subsequent Spin classes seriously awkward, both in front of other women in the locker room (even though I know I shouldn’t care) and on the bike. (Let’s just say it’s not a time you want to do tap backs.)
Determined to put an end to this cycle, and help out anyone else who might need it, I grilled Dr. Bard for her best advice on how to get rid of butt acne. Here, the four tips she swears by, because I know we’ve all been there.
1. Give the tight clothes a rest.
In case you needed another excuse to embrace the sweats-and-stilettos trend, loose pants are your best bet for avoiding breakouts. “To prevent folliculitis, I encourage patients not to wear tight, friction-inducing clothing such as tight jeans and to change out of your sweaty gym clothes as soon as possible,” says Dr. Bard. Opt for cotton underwear over nylon or Spandex to give the skin on your butt a chance to breathe.
2. Wash up after workouts.
Not only should you always shower after working out, but it’s important you actually pay attention to your skin back there while you do it. To cleanse, skip the basic body wash and reach for an antibacterial soap or benzoyl peroxide wash like Neutrogena’s Clear Stubborn Acne Cleanser. Some other tips: Make sure you wash your hair first and body last so the dirty suds from your scalp won’t drip down and clog your follicles. And after you shower, steer clear of thick, heavy body lotions that may do more harm than good. A good option to try? Curél’s Fragrance Free Comforting Body Lotion, which goes on light and is formulated for sensitive skin.
Also, when your skin is clear (so before any zits arise), remember to exfoliate regularly to remove dirt and bacteria, the same way you would for your face. You can use a gritty body scrub like one of these editor favorites. Or you can use a product with glycolic acid, like Glycolix 18% Extremity Cream which will help exfoliating skin more gently.
3. Don’t try to pop or pick at butt acne.
Not that you can reach them easily, anyway. But just in case you have bionically long arms, or have managed to find a way to get a hand on them, it’s important you resist the temptation to squeeze or pick at butt acne, which—according to Dr. Bard—will only make it worse. Doing so risks the chance that the spots will become more prone to infection, and it also might cause scarring.
4. Don’t be embarrassed to see a dermatologist.
We know. There’s nothing more cringeworthy than having to lie on your stomach while a doctor examines your bare ass, but here’s something to keep in mind: Derms have seen it all and they’re there to help. If you feel as if your acne isn’t improving, is getting worse, or is too painful to get about your day to day, it’s time to visit a pro. They’ll be able to help custom tailor a skin care plan that works best for you and/or recommend prescription medication you can take.

]]>I tolerate pain pretty well, but those sharp twinges really hurt. “It’s actually the ultrasound gel popping,” he tells me. “Like if you put oil in a frying pan, and the oil pops.” I squirm, but I’m determined to be as tough as I can in the name of a firmer jaw line.
Thankfully, the pain lasts only for a moment, and by the time I feel like I can’t take much more of it, he’s moved the laser on to a different part of my face. I’m normally a talkative patient, but even I’m not up to being too chatty. This is new to me.
I know what you’re probably thinking: If you’re going to submit yourself to any kind of pain—what does it cost? The price differs depending on who you go to, but Dr. Dugar says it’s around $800 a session for your face (Exilis laser skin tightening can be performed on other body parts as well). Like with most procedures that recommend multiple treatments, the more you sign up for at a time, the lower the cost. So far I’m just doing one session, but if I notice a visible difference, I’ll consider coming back for more—pain be damned.
Dr. Dugar likens the frequency of visits to when you were a teenager and could go to the gym once a week and stay in shape. Of course, as we age and metabolism slows, it takes more effort to maintain your physique. Dr. Dugar says I’ll see results for a few weeks at least with one treatment. After that, “the key is repetitive treatments”—usually one a month, for anywhere up to six to 10 sessions. It’s costly, but perhaps not much more than if you swap out bi-weekly facials, regular blow-outs, and expensive skin creams.
About 20 minutes later, the whole thing was done. He says he spent eight minutes on each side of my face with the laser, applying the highest intensity of the wattage to treat my jowls and jaw line. This is done in order “to get a little bit more stimulation of the collage to tighten.” My face is pretty red, but Dr. Dugar says that will reduce dramatically over the next few hours.
While Exilis prides itself on no downtime, I also wouldn’t necessarily want to go out to a big event or on a date the same night. If there was ever an excuse to stay in and watch TV, this is it. Still, Dr. Dugar tells me that I shouldn’t be afraid of doing my nighttime skin routine. “You can do everything normal because this is not a resurfacing laser,” he says.

Before I leave, Dr. Dugar applies a gold cooling mask to help calm my skin (which in all fairness, was breaking out pretty bad these last few days). The cooling sensation is so calming I’m tempted to stay here all day. Also, I look like C3-PO.

I say my goodbyes and thank Dr. Dugar and his staff; he says to call or email with any questions, and instead of pushing a second treatment on me, he says to take a few weeks to see how I like the results. It’s up to me if I want to continue for more. By the time I get to my car, I notice the redness in my face has disappeared quite considerably. (I’m still sticking to my plan of ordering in and watching TV, though).

The next day, aside from a patch of red skin near my chin, there’s barely any noticeable trace of the treatment. And if I forgot to mention, once the treatment was done, any sharp pain that I felt was gone. So if you can tolerate a few seconds of extreme heat, you’ll be OK.
The morning after the Exilis 360 laser, with just a bit of redness by my chin. The treatment is not recommended for anyone pregnant, or with a metal implant, like a pacemaker.

By the afternoon, I’ve applied a full face of makeup and as crazy as it sounds, I actually feel that my face is a bit firmer. It looks it, too. I feel like I’ve gone off to some five-star resort and spa for the week, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I said that (or even meant it). In other words, I’m a fan.

]]>You can be more on top of your sunscreen game than a Kardashian is with contouring, and yet somehow, some way, the sun will find you—always at the most inconvenient time and in a way that’s so brutal, you swear you’re never going to step outside again.
So even though we’ve already armed you with our best sunscreen recommendations and warned you that (like these poor souls) you’re probably putting your sunscreen on wrong, accidents obviously happen. It’s a long summer ahead. Prepare yourself for the worst by knowing how to treat a bad sunburn—and cover up the damage.
How to treat sunburn:
Stepping into the shower after a sun-filled day can feel like setting fire to your skin, but this is actually the perfect time to fast track the healing process. Before doing anything else, dermatologist Francesca Fusco, M.D., recommends popping an aspirin or Tylenol to immediately reduce inflammation and help with pain management. Then, take a cool shower and wash the burn with an aloe-vera-based cleanser like Naturopathica Aloe Cleansing Gel to remove grime and any sunscreen residue on your skin.
Once the area has been cleaned, apply a cold compress soaked in a mixture of milk and ice cubes to topically ease sore skin. “The cold temperature, the protein in milk, and the pH level will have a soothing and drawing-out-the-heat effect on skin,” Dr. Fusco explains. Try to do this immediately after a shower to combat pain before it really gets bad.
How to prevent sunburn from peeling:
Now that you’ve treated the area, your skin needs moisture—stat. To stop skin from flaking and peeling, slather on lotions that contain ceramides and antioxidants like vitamins C and E. For burns that need deep moisture, celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who works with Margot Robbie, recommends applying a thick moisturizer like Weleda Skin Food Cream before putting any makeup on your skin. If this feels too rich for you or you have oily skin, try Excipial 10% Urea Hydrating Healing Lotion instead to soothe and soften the damage before it gets a chance to peel.
How to color-correct the redness:
If you’re not about that tomato look, it is possible to keep a sunburn under wraps—you just need the right products. But perhaps to your surprise, foundation isn’t one of them. As hard as it is, fight the urge to put it on, and instead, begin with a light application of green-tinted color-correcting primer. Because green neutralizes redness on your skin, dab it onto the places that burnt the most (most likely the bridge of your nose and under your eyes). Just don’t layer it on too thick. Sheer is the way to go, otherwise, it’ll look caked-on.
How to conceal sunburn and tan lines:
First, step back and take a look at where your burn is the most noticeable. That’s where you’ll be applying a light layer of tinted moisturizer to further help tone down redness. Dubroff says to stick to cream-based makeup instead of powders, since powders are mattifying and could draw more attention to the areas you’re hoping to hide. “A sheer, tinted moisturizer with luminosity properties that’s one shade darker than your original skin color (pre-sunburn) works much better than any full-coverage foundations,” she says.
If your sunburn is less of an allover situation and more of a spot-treatment job, dab concealer onto only the reddest parts of your face. “Use a concealer with a yellow undertone on parts that are super-burnt to help blend it in,” Dubroff says. Translation: If you fell asleep with sunglasses on at the beach, dab concealer around the red ring surrounding your eyes to blend it into the rest of your skin color.
